My Interview on The Great Battlefield Podcast (and How I Almost Missed It!)
I speak with host Nathaniel Pearlman about CROSSING THE LINE and the bipartisan failure to deal honestly with the reality of forced human displacement and migration
What an honor to be interviewed by !
His Great Battlefield podcast — one of my personal faves — lifts up the voices of, in Nathaniel’s words, “political entrepreneurs and other progressive leaders who are finding new or improved ways to fight” today’s great political battle against the forces of reactionary conservativism: the individuals and groups that want to take us backward, to a supposedly better time, and don’t mind undermining longstanding norms, values, laws, and institutions to do so!
In our Episode #1074 (Nathaniel’s been hosting the show since 2017), we discuss what really constitutes the crisis in immigration. Spoiler alert: it has nothing to do with the protestations of pundits, demagogues, and profiteers who benefit from keeping the current political football in play.
And to think I almost missed it!
Overcome by imposter syndrome at being invited to participate in the podcast series that includes messaging guru, Anat Shenker-Osorio, and other amazing thought-leaders, I went for a walk with Gryffindog to chill out and get “in the zone” before chatting with Nathaniel. Then, just as we turned back onto our street a comfortable quarter of an hour before go time, my best beastie took off after a cat.
His leash ripped through my left hand. But I was too preoccupied to notice the throbbing. As Gryffin streaked back and forth across the road, dashing between the wheels of passing cars, ignoring my entreaties to “heal!” and “come!,” my blood pressure spiked.
Way too many stressed-out minutes later, once I’d gotten my bad boy back, I made a mad dash to my third-floor office, taking on the stairs two at a time. When I pressed the link that would connect me with Nathaniel, my heart was still pounding so loudly, I worried its thumping would be picked up by my mic.
In that moment, I did not feel like a thought leader or an entrepreneur. I felt like a sweaty, disorganized human running late to a first date!
Fortunately, Nathaniel put me immediately at ease and we had a great conversation!
We hope you enjoy it, too!
