As the ICE Gestapo fills its Gulag with our neighbors, family, colleagues, and friends, the time is NOW to call this country to its conscience. Or melt down Lady Liberty.
Important to know the back story of the humanitarian efforts for immigrant justice and asylum . Deep appreciation for these 'pioneers'. Wanting to know how to help going forward under this curent regime of terror against immigrants. Thank you for this discussion.
Such a good question, Maree, and one a lot of people seem to be asking, as I do feel the resistance growing. For my part, I'm doing a monthly meet-up, every 4th Sunday, with Dora Rodriguez to tackle current issues. This Sunday, we'll be talking about how casual language choices perpetuate the tropes and how to push back against the lies and disinformation that have turned so many into members of a cruel cult. Please join us! Find out more and register here: https://sarahtowle.com/hope-knows-no-borders-bookclub-webinar
Churches have such a mixed bag of behavior. Much like governments and people.
The church has on the one hand been critical in the borderlands, but was also responsible earlier in our national he for indigenous culture disruption & church schools, and the deaths of so many children.
😣 ugh. “South Africa with nuclear weapons.”
Changing the mindset. Deep breaths; okay let’s get moving on our citizens standing up, and yes, churches need to step forward.
The Unitarian Universalist Association stands on the side of love.❤️
Laura, So grateful for your comment. Yes, the record of the Church in justice matters has been sketchy, historically, but happy to lock elbows with you on changing that for the better. I have a burgeoning Book Study project with UUCs nationwide, in particular UUCs contemplating a railroad role. Can you help me expand that project through the UUA? DM me! Best, Sarah
I was so sorry to miss this live. I thought it was 2:30AZ time. So good to hear now. I got in on Sanctuary in Tucson only after the trial of 1985. John,Fr. Ricardo and Jim Corbett and the others of the pre-trial days are my heroes.
Oh, WOW! Susan, we sure missed you on the call. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear about the time. Because we're spanning time zones from the UK to HI (for now) and because AZ fluctuates, and I can't keep track of when, I'll always peg the time to ET. See you at the next meet up: Apr 27, 2:30-4:00 ET. It'll be on a topic I'm sure you lived firsthand from your unique borderlands perch: the criminalization of the caregivers.

Sarah. What you say is so right on. And phrased with clarity and eloquence. I’ve copied and pasted selected paragraphs to my Facebook page.
So grateful to you! Thanks, too, for commenting and for helping me to grow this community!
